Medical Doctor, Juris Doctor to scored HSP points
The Highly Skilled Professional (HSP) point system gives you points for the degrees you hold. If you are considering applying for Permanent Residency through the HSP point system, your HSP scores are very important.
In the most major HSP 1b (ロ), PhD is worth 30 points, MBA 25 points, Master 20 points, and Bachelor 10 points.
How are Medical Doctor (M.D.) and Juris Doctor (J.D.) scored?
Then how are Medical Doctor (M.D.) and Juris Doctor (J.D.) treated? Many medical doctors and lawyers hold those degrees.
To sum up, Medical Doctor (M.D.) and Juris Doctor (J.D.) also receive 20 points as equivalent to Master’s degree.
The Japanese Immigration Bureau mentions that these degrees, which do not require academic doctoral dissertations, are regarded as master’s degrees, although the name “Doctor” is included in the degree. In addition, up to 20 points will be added if more than 3 academic papers (first author only) are published in the academic paper database.
I think those are unfamiliar degrees to the Japanese, so if you are looking to clear your HSP scores, Permanent Residency and success, welcome to Continental!
